A closer greeting

The anonymous metch collective.

A word can stay the same while the feeling around it changes. We wanted the pink Hey. to have its own voice inside that shared beginning.

A word changes tone

We like the way a greeting changes with the person making it. The letters may be identical, but the feeling depends on the voice, the relationship and the moment in which it arrives. That is the question behind this version of Hey. The word already belongs to the collection. On blush pink, it meets a different ground and a different silhouette. We want the piece to have a character of its own while remaining clearly part of the same conversation. The relationship between the two tees matters, but neither needs to become a footnote to the other.

The black lettering gives the greeting a clear outline. The pink changes the atmosphere around it. We associate that colour with a kind of warmth that can be expressive without asking for an elaborate explanation. Against it, the handwritten word remains direct. There is a human quality in a familiar greeting set down with a little movement in its letters. We are interested in holding that quality inside the garment, so that the word still feels like an opening to someone. A greeting can have confidence and tenderness at the same time. The design leaves room for both.

The whole silhouette

The shaped silhouette is part of that voice. It changes the way the surface and the lettering are read together. We look at the outline of the piece before isolating the graphic, because a word placed on clothing belongs to a moving form. Its surrounding space has a shape. The neck, sleeves and body all participate in the first impression. The black Hey. does not exist separately from those relationships. Seen closely, the lettering leads. Seen as a whole, the blush and the silhouette carry as much of the feeling as the word itself.

The small harvest mark on the lower back creates another point of recognition. Inside the neckline, the label connects this piece to the collective's shared image. These are details you can know about even when they are outside the main view. We want the garment to reward that fuller attention. The back is a view of the same person, with its own relationship to the room around them. The inside belongs first to the wearer. Giving those views a role helps the greeting feel part of a complete piece rather than a phrase that happens to have found a surface.

Make it your own

The questions we return to concern tone and proportion. How does the handwriting meet the pink? What does the silhouette add to a word that is shared with another piece? Where should the small harvest scene enter the conversation? Each question brings us back to the relationship between a simple word and the person wearing it. The collection draws inspiration from travel, especially Europe, but it also carries the understanding that a change of setting can reveal something inside a familiar thing. This tee explores that thought through a greeting you already know and a different way of holding it.

Our anonymity gives that thought more room. You do not have to begin with a designer's name, a public image or a following. You can begin with the colour, the lettering and the way the piece feels in your own idea of a wardrobe. Hey. may call up a message from someone you love, the first word in a new friendship or the ease of being recognised. That meaning can be entirely yours. We want the garment to offer a clear beginning without closing down what comes after it. A small greeting can become the start of a much longer connection.
